Dun Laoghaire Choral Society and Galway Baroque Singers present the second concert in their CHORAL FUSION series, a series of double-choir music concerts that are being performed in Dublin and Galway between November 2016 and March 2018.

After the magnificent choruses of Handel's Solomon in the first CHORAL FUSION concert, this time the choirs turn to Lully (1632-1687) and Purcell.

Lully's Te Deum is his best-known sacred work, first performed at Fontainebleau just outside Paris on 9th September, 1677. The Te Deum calls for high pomp and considerable resources. Contemporary reports speak of the large forces (as many as 300 musicians, including chorus, orchestra, trumpets and drums) assembled to perform the work, even at the beginning of the eighteenth century. The success of the Te Deum is almost unique in the history of seventeenth century sacred music. Lully's Miserere mei Deus is another of his most famous motets, large-scale multi-movement works, structured in double-choir format with strings divided into six parts.

Purcell's ‘My heart is inditing of a good matter‘ was specially composed for the coronation of King James II on April 23rd 1685. It’s a large-scale composition that uses four-part strings, eight-part choir and eight soloists.

The two choirs, Dun Laoghaire Choral Society and Galway Baroque Singers will be joined by eight soloists for this performance: Mihaela Loredana Chirvase, Rory Costello, Rory Dunne, Ciaran Fennelly, Grainne Logue, Martha O'Brien, Kevin Neville and John McKeown. The choirs will accompanied by the exciting young orchestra that is Fishamble Sinfonia.
