Dun Laoghaire Choral Society takes a musical journey from the darkness of Hades, through the wonder of Earth, finishing in the glory of Eden. The performance will be in front of a dynamic visual image of Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights, whose images will change to reflect the music being sung. Directed by John Doyle and accompanied by Fergal Caufield, this 60 strength choir will perform a wide range of music from the Masters.
The concert starts with a section from Monteverdi’s Choruses from “Orpheo ed Euridice”, moving to selections from Brahms beautiful” Liebeslieder”. The romance of Schumann reflects the wonder of Earth and Eden along with a piece written by Tom Lane for the choir. The performance finishes with the haunting beauty of Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium” and Faure’s inspired “In Paridisum” from his Requiem in D minor.
The concert also includes a wonderful solo piano performance by Fergal Caufield of Liszt’s “Après une Lecture du Dante: Fantasia quasi Sonato”.
